Changing your A/C filter is one of those little home maintenance tasks that's easy to forget — until you pull out the old filter and realize it definitely should have been changed sooner.
The good news? Getting the right replacement filter doesn't have to mean standing in the filter aisle trying to figure out which one fits your system.
FilterFetch makes it easy to find the right A/C filter and have it shipped directly to your front door. Here's how it works.
1. Find Your A/C Filter Size
First, you'll need to know what size filter your system uses. In most cases, the size is printed right on the frame of your current filter and will look something like:
16 x 20 x 1
or
20 x 25 x 1
If you don't see a size, carefully remove the filter and check the entire frame. Getting the correct size matters. A filter that's too small can leave gaps that allow air to bypass the filter, while one that's too large simply won't fit.
If you're still not sure what size you need, don't guess. Ask your Kalos technician during your next service or maintenance visit and we'll be happy to help you identify it.
2. Find Your Filter on FilterFetch
Once you know your filter size, head over to FilterFetch.com.
Search for the size that matches your current filter and review the available options for your system.
You may see different filter types or filtration levels available. Keep in mind that a higher filtration rating isn't automatically better for every HVAC system. If you're thinking about switching to a significantly different filter than the one you're currently using, it's a good idea to ask your HVAC professional what makes sense for your equipment.
3. Order Your Filters and Have Them Shipped to Your Door
Once you've found the right filter, complete your order and have your replacement filters shipped directly to your home.
Keeping an extra filter or two on hand makes it much easier to swap out a dirty one when you need to — without making a last-minute trip to the store.
How Often Should You Change Your A/C Filter?
There's no perfect schedule that works for every home. Your filter type, HVAC system, pets, number of people in the home and even how much your system runs can all affect how quickly a filter gets dirty.
A good habit is to check your filter about once a month. If it looks dirty, replace it. Don't wait for the filter to become completely packed with dust before changing it.
Here in Central Florida, our A/C systems do a lot of work throughout the year, so keeping an eye on your filter is one of the simplest things you can do to help maintain proper airflow through your system.
One Last Thing: Check the Airflow Arrow
Before installing your new filter, look for the airflow arrow printed on the side of the frame.
The arrow should point in the direction the air is traveling toward your HVAC equipment. Installing the filter backward is an easy mistake to make, so it's always worth taking an extra second to check.
Not Sure Which Filter You Need?
We're happy to help. If you're a Kalos customer, ask your technician what filter size and type your system uses during your next visit.
It's a small part of taking care of your HVAC system, but keeping the right filter in place and changing it when it's dirty can help maintain proper airflow and keep dust and debris from building up inside your equipment.
